PROTEUS ALPHA

PROTEUS ALPHA (Smart Proactive Antidrone System) is a programmable, proactive and directional anti-drone system based on radioelectric inhibition.

The System allows to disturb and cancel, by means of inhibition technology, the radio link used by the remote control, telemetry, navigation and positioning systems of RPAS vehicles, in order to prevent or interrupt malicious or intrusive operations.

Although its design is optimized for use against RPAS, it can also be used against any other type of marine or ground devices remotely controlled, also in support operations in deactivation of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and in any other application involving radio links that must be inhibited.

Development and Intellectual Property

PROTEUS ALPHA has been designed and developed by Engineering Innovation Solutions SL (ENGINNO), who also holds its exclusive intellectual property.

Legal Information

PROTEUS ALPHA is intended to be used exclusively by armed and security forces as well as other officially authorized security organizations. Its possession and use may be restricted in accordance with the current legislation of each country regarding radioelectric inhibition.

It must be considered that the System used indiscriminately can cause indirect damage to people and properties. Its use should be limited in areas sensitive to electromagnetic fields and that may cause the degradation of functionalities (air navigation control of air, naval or land vehicles). In any case, its programming capability allows to define frequencies that, in each case, the user is interested to jam.

Operational Features

PROTEUS ALPHA is effective against almost all commercial drones present in the market. The models shown in the Figure serve as an example.

Thanks to the directivity of the antenna, the characteristics and the way of using the system, the radioelectric emissions in the space occupied by the operator are minimal and comply with the limits indicated in the current regulations for protection against non-ionizing radiation.

Technical Characteristics

The system covers the complete frequency range from:

20 MHz to 6 GHz

Inhibition Profiles in any frequency within the previous margin can be defined and loaded in the System by the user.

Inhibition Plans composed of up to six different Inhibition Profiles can be defined by user and loaded. Each Inhibition Profile contains a combination of Waveforms strategically configured for the threats to be countered. Any of the Profiles can be combined with a specific Profile configured for the inhibition of GNSS signals.

System is delivered with an Inhibition Plan that covers the frequencies most commonly used by drones such as 433 MHz; 2.4 MHz; 5.8 MHz, (including WIFI, FHSS, DSSS, PCM, PPM, BLUETOOTH, ZIGBEE, FM, AM, ASK, FSK) in addition to a specific profile against GNSS signals (GPS, GLONASS). This profile can be mixed with any of the others at the decision of the operator by just pressing a button.

User can program and load in the System Plans and Profiles covering the frequencies and waveforms that are desired.

PROTEUS ALPHA uses a state-of-the-art GaN amplifier (Gallium Nitride) with continuous coverage between 20 MHz and 6000 MHz, providing a nominal power of 35 W, which as a function of the frequency delivers the average power indicated in the attached figure.

The system mount a high-quality antenna covering the range from 340 MHz to 6,000 MHz. It is of the LPDA (periodic logarithmic) directional type, admits RF powers up to 100 W, with a gain of 5 dBi, and ROE less 1: 2

The antenna is detachable from the equipment and can adopt different polarizations between vertical and horizontal.

The general power supply of the equipment is 24 VDC. It uses a battery lithium-ion military type BB-2590 / U capacity 10.3 AH (highest in market), with two sections of 12 VDC, which is connected internally in series.

The battery is an intelligent type, using the standard SMBUS interface, from which the system controls in real time all its parameters (load status, voltage, current, cells, errors and alarms).

The equipment allows the use of other types of batteries as long as they are mechanically and electrically compatible with the BB-2590 / U.

The battery is housed in a watertight compartment located on the back of the device. It is easily accessible by operating two mechanical locks with insurance.

The system is delivered with a charger that allows its use either from a fixed 220 VAC installation or from a 12 VDC vehicular installation, optionally a charger is available for 24 VDC vehicle installations or 60W solar panels.

Simultaneously with or without batteries, the equipment can be powered externally by a 24 VDC source (functionality that can be used as hot swap).

The charging time of the battery is 4 hours, depending on the type of charger and the length of life that you want to give the battery. There are currently in the market chargers for this family of batteries that can perform faster charges, although greatly degrading the useful life of the batteries, the manufacturer can optionally provide a solution to meet customer needs in this regard, although Advise to have enough original batteries to proceed with the natural charging of the battery. The system is delivered with two batteries.

The operative autonomy of the equipment with the battery supplied by the manufacturer depends on the utilization ratio (inhibition / rest) and the Inhibition Plan (Set of Waveform Profiles) that is configured and programmed in the equipment and to a large extent of the load life regime that has been carried out on said battery. It is estimated an operating autonomy of between 4 and 6 hours for a typical type of use.

The equipment in idle mode “STANDBY” (no inhibition activated) consumes the minimum necessary to stay alert for use, it is estimated that this autonomy is between 48 and 72 hours, depending on the use made by the operator of the screen of the display and the time that is set for the auto off.

The electrical system contains the elements of protection, regulation and filtering necessary to ensure that the specifications of the equipment are not affected by alterations in the power supply

The system is delivered with a red / green holographic viewfinder, attachable to Picatinny Rail that allows easy pointing of the equipment.

However, the system integrates “Picatinny Rails” that allow the assembly of any optical day / night, IR or thermal compatible.

The equipment has a synthesis of programmable inhibition signal to deal with all types of threats both present and future.

It has features that allow synthesizing all kinds of inhibition signals, triangular, chirp, sawtooth, linear, logarithmic, etc.

This type of inhibition signals is known as Waveform Profiles, the set of all the profiles loaded in an equipment is called the Inhibition Plan.

The equipment has the capacity to store and select up to six profiles of waveforms (expandable if necessary). Any of them can also be overlaid at will by a specific Profile to inhibit GNSS signals.

The Waveform Profiles allow the programming and configuration of the intelligence characteristics of the inhibition signal in order to maximize its efficiency.

From the factory, the equipment has a basic configuration of Inhibition Plan, formed by several Waveform Profiles, designed and configured according to the existing threats in the market.

Access to the possibility of reprogramming and reconfiguring the different profiles of the inhibition plan installed in the equipment is an optional supply consisting of USB to PC connectivity hardware, a development environment and a course for inhibition intelligence administrators.

Optionally, the manufacturer offers a software application with the capacity to load the equipment of an Inhibition Plan in an automated and even remote way through LAN connectivity or USB Pendrive, a feature of great utility in deployments to international operations areas.

The waveform profile development environment allows you to manage the frequency bands in which you want to inhibit, their spectral density, waveform, type of sweeps, noise, phase, modulation, etc. all from a C ++ development environment.
